Job Description


The Health and Fitness Specialist position is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation health and wellness initiatives for the Chevron Pascagoula Refinery employee population. The Health and Fitness Specialist oversees fitness center activities and provides customer support by assisting employees with fitness programs and wellness consultations. The H&F Specialist consults with supervisors, management, and committees on health and wellness initiatives and related HES efforts, including Fitness for Duty, RSIP, and Early Injury Management.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: 

  • Assists in the development and implementation of health and wellness programs for refinery employee population.
  • Provides customer support by assisting employees and fitness center members with fitness programs and wellness consultations.
  • Consults with supervisors, management and committees on health and wellness initiatives.
  • Oversees fitness center activities.
  • Performs fitness assessments, exercise prescription and implementation for fitness center members.
  • Coordinates and delivers educational and conditioning classes.
  • Coordinates member enrollment, maintains member files and database, ensures accuracy and data privacy.
  • Supports the RSIP program by performing office and field ergonomic evaluations and acting as database administrator, compliance trainer, and job specific conditioning specialist.
  • Supports FFD and EIM process by assisting in the development and implementation of programs designed to keep employees working at full capacity.
  • Assists in mentoring contract staff.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in physiology, health related science, or wellness related field.
  • 5 or more years work experience in the health or wellness profession.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Customer-focused; proactively builds partnerships; anticipates needs; regular engagement.
  • Ability to deliver both educational and conditioning classes.
  • Ability to work rotating shift (during the hours of 4:30 a.m.-8:00 p.m.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Experience deploying health and wellness programs with a Manufacturing or Refining population.
  • Hold Health and Fitness industry certifications.
