Position Summary

Our team is experiencing exciting growth within our established practice and we have a need for a new Inspector to join our team. This position is intended to provide immediate erosion and sedimentation control inspection for a major gas pipeline project in Virginia. 

This person will inspect construction methods and workmanship to ensure that oil/gas pipelines, roadways, bridges, and related highway structures in accordance with Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ) erosion and sedimentation, and stormwater management specifications. Perform work related to erosion & sedimentation control inspection for oil/gas pipeline projects, transportation infrastructure projects, data collection, construction record-keeping and traffic control inspection. Employee at this level performs work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. 

•Observe and inspect ongoing construction work.

•Review plans and specifications to ensure that work is in compliance with plans and specifications.

•Complete pay sheets for actual work completed.

•Maintain a daily activity of work in progress and status of completion and discusses construction related problems with supervisor.

•Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

•High School Diploma or equivalent experience is required•At least 5 years of experience in construction inspection for transportation or oil/gas pipeline projects is required.•Virginia DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector as well as Stormwater Management Certifications is required•Required to have and maintain a satisfactory driving record•Ability to move up to 50 pounds is required•Ability to effectively follow instructions deal effectively with contractors and public.•Ability to read and interpret erosion and sedimentation control and stormwater management plans.•Some knowledge of construction including material, methods, plans and specifications associated safety requirements.•Able and willing to work day or night shifts and/or flexible schedules including weekends as required to support the project requirements.•Work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.•Personal computers and applicable programs.•Promotes and maintains a safe working environment•Ability to hike over uneven terrain for up to five miles per day. 

Staff who are interested in supporting this field program should be able to work comfortably under the following conditions:
•Work 6 days per week, with 11 hour work days.•Elevations between 5,000 and 10,000 feet and in temperatures up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.•Several miles of hiking each day over rugged terrain.•Long travel times to/from project sites (est. 1-2 hours each way)•Carrying a backpack with outdoor clothing, food, and water, and carrying field instrumentation.•Familiarity and comfort with operating 4WD vehicles (trucks and/or UTV vehicles) and driving on 4WD roads.•Comfort working in remote areas.
The following VDOT Certifications is preferred (for transportation projects):•Soil and Aggregate Field Compaction•Asphalt Field•Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field•Pavement Marking•Flagger Certification•Additional Expected Certifications:•VDEQ Certification for Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection•Work Zone Traffic Control Training (Intermediate Level)•Nuclear Gauge Safety Training

Essential Functions: 
Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
