Job Description

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Provide overall HES field support leadership to the Facilities Engineering group in the Canadian Business Unit (CBU).
  • Lead by example by demonstrating behaviors according to the Chevron Way, and ensuring execution of Chevron's Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS).
  • Manage incident response and investigations in compliance with Chevron's Incident Investigation & Reporting (II&R Process), including Incident Management System (IMS) data entry, investigation support and implementation of recommendations.
  • Support Operations by driving fit-for-purpose implementation of Operational Excellence (OE) processes/procedures.
  • Provide visible leadership in the field by participation in Operational Excellence (OE), risk management and pre start-up reviews.
  • Provide HES support with program-specific Contactor HES Management plans and communicate HES expectations prior to contractors mobilizing to the field.
  • Identify and coordinate applicable OE training to the field team.
  • Ensure the sharing and implementation of lessons learned from incidents, significant near misses and project lookbacks.
  • Participates in Managing Safe Work (MSW) leadership field assessments.
  • Participates in contractor/HES audits and inspections.
  • Participate in development of project specific risk and hazard assessment.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings and facilitate the OE discussion.
  • Engage and coordinate execution of OE/IFO related work plans with the greater HES team based in Calgary.
  • Overseeing day-to-day work of HES contract personnel (if any).

  • Bachelors degree in related field (or combination of relevant education and experience).
  • 5 - 8 years of directly relevant upstream operations HES experience is required. A combination of safety, operations (production, pipeline, facilities construction, civil) and service rig experience is highly preferable.
  • Preference for OH&S certification. 
    Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation (or in progress) would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Canadian and Alberta regulatory requirements for upstream, land-based well sites, and facility operations.
  • Proven ability to provide technical safety consultation on a wide range of health, environment and safety issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HES processes including Safe Work Standards/Practices, Emergency Management, Contractor HES Management, Incident Investigation and Reporting, field based auditing and Motor Vehicle Safety.
  • Experienced in hands-on participation and implementation of HES/OE Management Systems, processes and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively in a team environment, both supporting other team members and contributing to the effectiveness and reliability of the team.
  • Ability to represent Chevron's interests in a constructive and professional manner during interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to behavioral based safety programs and ensuring incident and injury free working conditions.
  • Ability to effectively organize and execute tasks for multiple stakeholders, with at times overlapping and conflicting timelines and priorities.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing work priorities and deliver high quality, accurate work with multiple deadlines.
  • Well developed computer, presentation and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Position is located in Fox Creek/Whitecourt office, however this position will be required to spend a significant amount of time in the field (>80%). Occasional out-of-town travel to Calgary (
  • Must be able to respond to incidents and operational requests outside of normal work hours.
  • The position is classified as safety sensitive and will require a preplacement medical.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
