Parker's rental tools business supplies premium equipment to operators on land and offshore in the U.S. and select international markets. Parker's project management business includes multiple contracts for the design, construction or operation of customer-owned rigs, including operation of an extended-reach-drilling land rigs (also designed and built by Parker) and an offshore drilling platform.

Job Description

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the drafting and design practices to support the Mechanical Engineering Department on both product and project related matters.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks include the following:

  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations to develop and maintain product designs.
  • Create/revise detailed 3D models, layouts, drawings, and BOMs for new and existing equipment.
  • Use proper drafting techniques and apply correct dimensional tolerances to drawings.
  • Check manufacturing documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Calculate required values for resizing design dimensions to scale new and existing products.
  • Participate in product design changes and new product development processes.
  • Develop or modify assembly/testing procedures to be carried out by Operations.
  • Maintain accurate control of all data and documentation related to products and designs.
  • Complete paperwork and correspondence associated with product design and maintenance.
  • Provide support to suppliers and internal operations with general manufacturing questions, non-conformances, and dispositions.
  • Abide by Company policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Position Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A High School diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • An Associate or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Industrial Design, Engineering Technology, or similar is preferred.
  • Should have at least 3 years of design/drafting related experience.
  • Possess knowledge of downhole and/or tubular running tools is preferred.
  • Must be proficient in 3D CAD software; SolidWorks experience is preferred.
  • Possess knowledge of codes and standards in ASME, ASTM, API, AWS, DNV, and other industry standards is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management is a plus.
  • Must be a detail oriented, self-starter and able to work with little supervision while maintaining goals/tasks.
  • Must have good PC skills to include all MS Office products.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with staff, management, customers and vendors. Being multi-lingual is preferred.
  • Must possess sound reasoning skills and have the ability to follow directions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk, stoop, kneel, carry, push/pull and use repetitive wrist and hand movements. The employee may be required to lift and/or move objects of up to 25 pounds. Hearing, seeing ability to include depth perception, peripheral vision and rapid mental coordination. It is required to be mentally alert for entire regular shift.

Work Environment

This position will typically work in a climate controlled building. Duties will require visits to the shop as well as possible field trips to work with Operations personnel in domestic and international locations.
