Job Description

  • Design new and modified facilities to meet business objectives
  • Ensure alignment of recommended scope with site Business Teams and Engineering Specialists
  • Participate as technical design lead in HAZOP reviews of project facilities and existing process units
  • Perform technical reviews of the work of less experienced process designers, ensuring delivery of technical quality and capital efficiency while meeting schedule requirements
  • Participate in planning and work allocation process for the process design discipline
  • Expected Level of Proficiency
  • Candidates should have a strong background in Process Design, with a minimum of 7 years of experience  in the petrochemical industry (chemical plant, refinery, etc...)
  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Chemical Engineering
  • Strong process safety background (HAZOP, SRS) with working knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
  • Capable of leading capital project development or design effort
  • Ability to develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), heat and material balances (H&MBs), and Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs) for petrochemical processes
  • Ability to create and modify simulations of petrochemical processes using PRO/II, Hysys, Aspen, or equivalent tools to evaluate requirements for new or modified plant facilities
  • Ability to design new process equipment and rate existing process equipment to determine if it is suitable for modified operating parameters
  • Responsible for creating and reviewing detailed technical documents, including gaining alignment with all key project team participants
  • Ability to effectively communicate to Integrated Project Team (IPT) members, peers, and different levels of management
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork, accuracy, effectiveness, and self confidence
  • Preferred Qualifications/Experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal and process safety
  • Plant experience with an emphasis on operations troubleshooting in a petrochemical facility
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and manage competing priorities
  • Proficiency with software packages including: ProII with Provision, Pegasys, HTRI
  • Understanding of development phase scheduling and resource allocation techniques
