Job Description

We are in need of a talented engineer to drive significant improvements across our portfolio of projects and assets. With opportunities to develop both your technical expertise and professional skills, working for a positive employer.

What's the role?

As a Principal Technical Expert (PTE) of Systems Engineering (SE), your prime responsibility is to be the key technical leader to drive the adoption of Systems Engineering across Shell's portfolio. Since Systems Engineering is new to both Shell and the Energy industry, the SE PTE will need to collaborate internally within Shell and externally with industry partners and suppliers, to develop the strategy and support implementation of the systems engineering for the company.

You can expect to be seen as a lead expert in systems engineering and its application across the project lifecycle for Shell. You will also provide experience, support and input to the development of the SE strategy and implementation - including development of global processes and communications.

More specific duties include:

  • Providing support to project teams and strategic themes / Line of Business (LoBs) to apply SE methodologies.
  • Interfacing with other improvement groups / transformation themes to drive an end-to-end / integrated improvement approach for projects.
  • Providing experience, perspective and insight from other industries on application of Systems Engineering elements.
  • Help develop Competency Frameworks and Training Programmes for SE practitioners and key stakeholders, including front-end development managements, project managers, engineering managers and disciplines, and senior leadership.
  • Supporting Shell's Chief Facilities Engineer in development of discipline engineering skill pools
  • Providing assistance in the development of requirement sets, utilizing an SE / requirements management approach.
  • Maintaining a strong connection to the external world, including the supply chain, the industry, and academia, and general trends driving the energy business.
  • Actively participate as the Shell representative for the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Oil & Gas Working Group.

Where you fit in

Shell's goal is to provide more and cleaner energy for our world. Global energy consumption is projected to double by 2050, while climate change and the need for lower carbon energy solutions must be addressed. Shell is taking a lead role in this energy transition and growth. To achieve our goal and ensure world class safety and business performance, Shell is driving significant improvements across our portfolio of projects and assets.

This includes adoption of Systems Engineering methodologies to radically transform 1) how we design and build new projects, 2) develop new technologies, and 3) interface with our supply chain. Systems Engineering is one of the key pillars in Shell's change journey to move beyond the traditional oil & gas industry performance.

Requirements

What we need from you

aturally, we see you as a good team player and communicator, with a passion for developing your skills within Systems Engineering. Alongside your broad understanding of the oil and gas industry, projects and application of SE, we're keen to hear from men and women with as much of the following on your CV:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with existing or in-progress Masters in Systems Engineering
  • Seasoned professional experience in Systems Engineering or related role, within the oil & gas industry
  • Experience working with international oil companies, major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), or Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPCs) / contractors in the oil & gas industry.
