Overview

The Chevron Gulf of Mexico Geological & Geophysical Operations team is seeking an Earth Scientist (functional Geologist or Geophysicist) to provide geotechnical support for well planning and drilling operations in Chevron's non-operated joint venture (NOJV) projects in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico (GOM). This position will be located in Chevron's Covington, Louisiana office.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Identification and assessment of subsurface drilling hazards, from seabed to TD, for proposed well locations through the interpretation of 3D seismic data, well log data, and offset drilling records.
  • Working with Chevron Drilling &Completions personnel to fully evaluate proposed well designs.
  • Working with Chevron NOJV Asset Development, Appraisal and Exploration teams to ensure that proposed wells meet or exceed the project objectives.
  • Participation in formation evaluation planning and execution oversight, including LWD and wireline logging, pressure measurements, fluid acquisition, and coring programs.
  • Monitoring daily drilling activity through the analysis of realtime streaming well data and static reports; provide daily updates to the Chevron NOJV project team regarding drilling operations, wellbore conditions and well progress with respect to well objectives and the predrill hazard assessment.



The G&G Operations Earth Scientist has an integral role in promoting Chevron's performance goals by reducing non-productive time to increase drilling efficiency and promote incident-free operations while increasing project value in a manner consistent with the company's health, safety and environmental policies.

Required Qualifications

  • MSc Geology or Geophysics
  • Minimum of 5 years of Operations Geology/Geophysics experience in GOM or equivalent offshore environment.
  • Ability to interpret structural and stratigraphic geologic features on 3D seismic.
  • Ability to integrate seismic, well log and drilling mechanics data for the construction of subsurface drilling hazard assessments.
  • Understanding of wellsite geology procedures and basic LWD, wireline and mudlogging services needed to support deepwater drilling operations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is expected and required in order to fulfill job responsibilities.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience interpreting 3D seismic data using Petrel software (or equivalent).
  • Experience in the use and interpretation of seismic amplitude and velocity to identify rock and fluid properties.
  • Ability to create pore pressure / fracture gradient models by integrating seismic velocity, well logs, measured pressures, mud weight and drilling parameters and to use such models to evaluate wellbore conditions while drilling.
  • Experience creating pore pressure / fracture gradient models using Landmark Drillworks Predict software (or equivalent).
  • Experience in conventional coring and the use, operation and interpretation of advanced LWD and wireline formation evaluation tools.
