1.0 Job Purpose

The Boilermaker Helper is responsible for executing helper duties to assist assigned crew.

2.0 Relationships



Directly Reports to:


Client representative

Close working relationships with:

Journeyman Boilermaker

Commissioning and Construction Managers

Directly Supervises:

Project Supervisors and Technicians

3.0 Main Responsibilities & Key Result Areas 

This is a Boiler Maker helper position.

  • Must have minimum three years experienced in boilers or HVAC, piping skills, pipe fitting, assembly of boilers, tanks, vats, and pressure vessels according to blueprint specifications or manuals, using power tools and hand-tools.
  • Researches technical drawings/diagrams/materials to ensure appropriate parts pulled for a specific job. Be able to work with others.
  • Be a team player with good communication skills and writing skills. Have an understanding of maintenance and interpretation of job scopes.

5.0 Qualifications

  • Entry Level
  • Industrial construction/maintenance industry experience preferred
  • Physical Requirements may include , but not limited to: Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Fingering, Grasping, Feeling, Repetitive Motions

6.0 Experience, Competence, Skills & Knowledge

  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a Boilermaker field.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a Journeyman or supervisor.
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
  • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems.
  • Plan work and select proper tools.
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
  • Work at heights without fear.

7.0 Personal Qualities

  • Flexible attitude to working hours and shift patterns in order to get the job done.
  • Personal integrity that can be a role model for all other members of staff.

8.0 Physical Requirements

Sedentary Work

Light Duty

Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and / or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

Medium Work

Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and / or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Heavy Work

Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and / or carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds or more.

Very Heavy Work

Lifting objects in excess of 100 pounds with frequent lifting and / or carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
