The D&C DSC also provides performance support to drilling operations including factory and unconventional drilling and completion locations. Delivery of these services puts the D&C DSC at the center of Chevron's digital Transformation initiatives. It is a fast paced environment requiring working to ensure safe and efficient operations through engineering detail, technological innovation, and Human Performance. In the process safety space, this requires ensuring that drilling and completion operations are executed within the basis of design, updating and running engineering models, comparing actual data to expected results and making data-driven decisions and providing recommendations. Performance optimization support requires development and interpretation of tools utilizing real-time key performance indicators, drilling & completions data analytics, and custom engineering analysis applications

The DSC Engineer's responsibilities are as follows:

  • Provides day-to-day engineering support for several global complex well drilling operations
  • Ensures that operations are executed per the basis of design (e.g., MW, hole depth, csg depth, pressure testing, barrier testing, LOT, FIT, etc.), and liaising with Drilling Supervisors to contact rig when discrepancies occur.
  • Develops tools, technologies and workflows to generate actionable information to drive-data driven decisions at the rig site level.
  • Updates and runs engineering simulations, captures event reports, and provides engineering insight to the rig team (e.g., ECD, surge/swab, torque/drag, cementing, fluid displacements, BOP testing, LOT/FIT interpretation, etc.)
  • Supports business unit performance & operations teams in improving performance via Decision Support Center delivered real time tools.
  • Assists Drilling Supervisors in prioritizing rig activities, and support real-time operators with kick detection as required.
  • Monitors complex wells operations for kick detection and possible Non Productive Time events.
  • Communicates with rig, DSC and Business Unit office-based personnel to discuss Process Safety or Performance matters that are identified by the Engineers and Real Time Operators.
  • Prepares end of section and end of well reporting so that lessons learned and best practices are communicated back to the business unit and across the global D&C community.
  • Participates in D&C operations Risk Assessments, Pre-Spud and Pre-Section meetings.
  • Facilitates/Leads meetings and workshops.
  • Manages Business Partners.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Geoscience.
  • Drilling and/or completions operations and/or engineering experience (minimum 5 year required).
  • Previous assignments and experience in one or more roles such as Drill Site Manager / Drilling Representative, Well Site Manager, Operations Engineer, Drilling Engineer.
  • Experience with D&C engineering applications. Competency with D&C data systems (i.e. Wellview) and modelling tools (Landmark EDT).
  • Expertise in drilling and completions performance optimization concepts, Directional Drilling, Frac, and drilling automation utilizing real-time data are highly regarded.
  • Communication & writing skills. Constant communication will be required between DSC and rig & office-based D&C personnel throughout Chevron's global operations.
  • Understanding of D&C risks and subsurface uncertainty management planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and balance multiple efforts at once
  • Demonstrated ability to engage key stakeholders across departments, divisions, functions and cultures and gain support by making a compelling case for change initiatives
